What We're About

courtesy of To Write Love on Her Arms
“And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.”
Acts 2:42-47
Among other things, we are committed to:
- Hospitality
- Love
- Service
There are many levels to what will eventually be the physical existence of New Way Corktown. Part of it will consist of corporate worship and teaching, utilizing local pubs, coffee shops and restaurants for Theology on Tap and other series. Corporate prayer services utilizing the Book of Common Prayer will take place, probably 1-2 times per week.
As to physical labor, some of what we are planning is "common sense" stuff. On the map you will find two parks Savage to the southeast and Roosevelt to the west. Both of these are target areas that need physical healing. Neither of these resemble parks and need to be tended to in order to provide safety and an interest point for the community. Inspired in part by work being done in Denver, we want to work with some anti-crime opportunities in the neighborhood as well. Simple things like the "Adopt-a-Bus-Shelter" project that the Detroit Department of Transportation facilitates are somewhat easy ways for us to make an impact in our community.
